The Plaza’s arts and education team are trying to raise up to £10,000 to run a film and creative media project for young people aged 13-19 years. The project, entitled ‘Not Straight Forward’ will enable the group to produce their own awareness raising docu-drama themed on Identity issues linked to gender and sexuality.
The project has been inspired by discussions and planning meetings with young people. Several within the cohort identify themselves as LGBT+ and have experienced difficulties with their ‘outsider’ status. They told us they want to channel their ideas through writing, artwork, music and drama to develop an educational film that will assist other young people to overcome negative perceptions, peer pressure to ‘conform’ and the confidence to be themselves.
The project will culminate in a public screening at the Plaza Community cinema followed by a Q/A with the audience and young cast and crew. Copies of the film will be distributed to local Secondary Schools for use as a training tool for staff and a useful resource for PSHE and assemblies.
The Plaza would love if you could help support the project by clicking on the link just here –https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/not-straight-forward
Please pledge your support as the 5 week appeal will close on Tuesday 10th July.
