The Plaza Community Cinema is asking the community to engage and support us in our bid to secure some funding to help keep us going as things slowly return to normal after lockdown.
The cinema has been closed for five months, and has had no income during this time. We have now re-opened but attendances are very low, and we are operating at a loss.
Jan Dunn, Chair of trustees said:
“There is government funding available for independent cinemas, but the way it is being administered in favour of the large, heavily subsidised art house cinemas makes it almost impossible for independent community based cinemas such as the Plaza, to get a slice of the cake.
We are really worried about the future of the Plaza, and are asking the community to help support our campaign for a fair distribution of the money.”
The Plaza is planning to lobby Oliver Dowden MP and Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
