In the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York.
The film is loosely based upon a real family of Smith’s who lived in St. Louis at the turn of the century. The real life ‘Tootie’ Smith wrote stories about her family for the New Yorker. The stories were later adapted to become the classic musical ‘Meet Me in St. Louis.’
